How We Prepare Walls Prior to Wallpaper Installation

When removing old wallpaper, remnants of adhesive, bumps, and loose plaster specks may remain on the walls.

To ensure a flawless finish and minimize sanding time, we promptly sand the walls once the plaster has dried using coarse grit paper and a sanding block. This step typically takes no more than 30 minutes. After sanding, we meticulously brush or vacuum the surface to remove any dust.

For modern plasterboard walls, even after sanding, we meticulously inspect and fill any small cracks or imperfections. Our filling process involves multiple stages of filling, sanding, and vacuuming to ensure a smooth surface for wallpaper application.

In older properties with lath and plaster walls, we dedicate additional time for filling and sanding, often requiring half a day. After stripping the wallpaper, we thoroughly clean the walls to remove any traces of adhesive. Deep cracks are carefully filled, sanded, and cleaned to prepare the surface for wallpaper installation.

Our meticulous process includes raking out cracks, dampening deep cracks before filling, sanding with abrasive paper attached to a vacuum extractor, and cleaning the floor and skirting boards.
